Meat

It was an exciting day today for the 4 footeds.

Today is meat delivery day. Since 2008 I've had these guys on a raw diet. Homestead Ranches in Paonia does a raw dog food which combines muscle and organ meat. They get this ground up meat with a supplement of raw bones 3X a week.

They deliver to my area once a week and this week it's time to restock the dogfood.

40 lbs of meat and 3 pork ribs.

This will last about a month and a half. I keep checking to see if they're getting too skinny or too fat and adjust accordingly. They also get variety- like treats from my favorite local "fast food" place (Scot makes a killer egg sandwich) Scotties

They arrive frozen and I get them in the freezer as quickly as I can.

It's easier to cut this into portions when it's partially frozen. I use a separate cutting board just for the raw meat. If you're going to do this wash your hands thoroughly after you've fed the beasties. If you think that's going to be a problem you can always use chef's gloves.
1/6 pound for breakfast and 1/6 pound for dinner.

I separate Duff and the Pulis when I feed them otherwise Duffy would steal BB and Luv's food

It's gone in about 10 seconds.

Maybe 5 seconds.

BB and Luv sitting pretty for dinner.

Luv chomping on his and BB waiting his turn.

BB gets his and promptly takes it out to the driveway.

The raw diet is controversial and if you'd like to know more about it why not go to the yahoo group and get more info?

I can tell you this, my guys love it, they're happy, they're healthy and  they have shiny white teeth.

There are lots of reasons to do this- not the least of which is we waste so much food why not use the less popular cuts of meat for dogfood? It's what we used to do, give the scraps from the table or the extra bits from the butcher to the dogs.

But the major reason is because we have them for such a short time and it's great to see them enjoying things... like dinner.

Oh yeah, I don't eat meat, just the dogs....

Morning romp

Blue Pulik (see? two noses?)

Backlit Pulik (still two of them- really even though all you see is 4 feet) They will be 2 years old next month and the dreads are getting longer and longer....

Running up to the Studio- cold this morning... Duff keeps up with the hell boyz just fine thanks.

spring frolics

The snow is starting to get soft all over so I break through but the hellboyz and Duff do not.

Ginny seems to be enjoying the walk and some sun.

The wild pulik brothers

Here's Ginny doing her best "Call of the Wild" imitation.

dawn and a walk

Yesterday morning was relatively warm. This normally means more snow in the near future.

Ginny giving me a little incentive to move up the drive faster....

She's looking back at me all the time now.

The Hellboyz are still roaring along although the dynamic has changed a little with them also. BB is more assertive with Luverboy- and when he gets too assertive Ginny steps in and tells him to shut up in short order. She's known a lot of puppies in her life and she's not takin' guff from any of them no matter how much hair they've got.

bad hair day

This isn't the wind blowing through Luverboy's hair- this is more of a semi permanent condition. His hair sticks up on his head most of the time.

The hellboyz just don't know how to stop. I'm a tad worried since they both seem to have picked up Jinks' cough. Staying warm and quiet is difficult to achieve however even indoors they're romping like little dread lock fools.

I can't begin to tell you how fast these guys are.

snow and sun

The day started out cold and snowy. Here Jinks and Ginny look like they're in a scene from Dr. Zhivago. You will notice Jinks has a snow nose- he's just been playing snowplow.

Things livened up a bit when there was something to bark at.

What else? Bark at the Puli with the Santa Teddy bear toy. BB's put the burners on....

Because look what's after him...

Then the sun came out and everybody had fun. I really need to get these guys some snow suits...they will turn into running snowballs pretty soon.

Sun and about 3 new inches of snow. Fun for the kids- more plowing for me.

Ginny just loves to roll in the snow- and as you can see she thinks it tastes good too. Maybe all those years in the truck cage she never got to taste snow. We're making up for that now.

SNOW!

Finally! Snow!!!
We really need this things are really dry out here and without the winter snowpack we're really in trouble

Ginny spent most of her life before coming here outside in a truck cage. She certainly doesn't mind the cold but she certainly enjoys the freedom of running and rolling in the fluffly stuff (as long as the sun is shining)

Jinksy is a bit of a snowplow. He adores snow and loves to just push it around.

The hell boys (aka pulik) have never seen snow before and they are going nuts as only pulik can go nuts. Their dreads are starting to really grow out as you can see by the flying tackle that Luverboy is slamming into his bro BB.

They might be enjoying themselves? I don't know but Jinksy is the only one who came inside the office the rest are all outside romping still...

The obsession of Pulik

Every dog has a passion. With little Chiffon it was Opera- she was a fool for La Boheme- the Pavoratti Freni recording. Jinks is food obsessed- I mean even for a corgi- he takes food fetish to new levels. He fell asleep at the ICU with his nose in the food bowl. Ginny will do backflips if you use the word "cheese".

However the puli brothers (aka "hellboys) are another matter all together. Their obsession is each other. Their favorite thing to do is to play tug of war and keep away.

Sometimes it's really hard to tell where one stops and the other one starts...
