spring frolics

The snow is starting to get soft all over so I break through but the hellboyz and Duff do not.

Ginny seems to be enjoying the walk and some sun.

Get your licks

The snow is hard enough to run on and , apparently, also perfect for doggie snowcones. Everybody is eating snow.

barkaholic, ballaholic

It seems that Duff is a balldog. He really likes soccer but only as an indoor sport. I guess the faster paced indoor game has it's appeal for corgis as well.

Not surprisingly he went for this old tennis ball as well. He's certainly been around this game enough to know not to give the ball away......at least not unless there's some big payoff involved.

Just how big a payoff was necessary I was about to discover. Regular readers will know that Ginny is a "barkaholic". We go out on our walks and she barks- non stop- right in your ear- or in this case- right in Duff's ear.

So Duff came up with an ingenious plan- he very carefully dropped the ball....

Which Ginny then picked up.....

You really can't bark with a ball in your mouth.

How do I know this was intentional? Duff didn't bat an eyelash when Ginny picked it up- he didn't try and get the ball back- he could care less about the ball. Mission accomplished....

Puli pull toy

Duff is learning the routine pretty quickly. He's already figured out that it's easier to hang on to a Puli's dreads than to chase them.....

I was warned when I got Duffy that he was "high energy". This is the perfect combination- they wear each other out- then crash- then play- then crash- then play.

Smart girl Ginny lies curled up in the doggie bed and lets them play. Sometimes she gets in the play mode herself which the Pulik take as a golden opportunity to maul Duffy.

Duffy

There's a new member of the family. Duffy is a 2 year old male rescue. He is ready to play 24/7/365. I don't think he'll be able to wear out the Puli brothers though.

Ginny is letting him know who is the snow queen. You can see a little bit of the cotton clothesline "leash" on Duffy. He's been an "outside" dog most of his life so we need to learn things like "come". Right now he's just concerned with staying close to the rest of the pack, but once he starts to feel it's familiar territory then he just might start to wander off a bit. Today has been filled with lessons, sit, come, wait, all sorts of good stuff....

New Year's Eve

The morning romp up to the Studio...

and goodbye to 2007 aroos from Ginny.

all clear on the western front

Well, it's been a busy 2 days. I started out yesterday to the Vets only to discover a dead battery in my truck. It was -17 F Thursday night so that's not a surprise but it still wasn't fun. By the time I'd gotten the truck going it was too late for the Vets. After a lot of phone calls and maneuvering things were rescheduled for this morning.

Jinks' bloodwork is good, his x-rays show clear lungs (yeah! no more pneumonia) and the ultrasound was clean. I am a happy dog mom. He's not back 100% but he's better. Now I just need to cut back on the rations- he's up to 31 pounds!

This is the moon on Friday morning looking west over the driveway.

Corgi frolic

Everybody is feeling frisky with cold and snow... it's in the teens today.

Ginny just wants to jump and roll everywhere.

Even Jinks is running up the drive just to run alongside Ginny.

Shadow warrior

Jinks is on some new herbal meds. He's a little slower going up the drive in the mornings but not much.

He still has a little congestion from the pneumonia but you sure couldn't tell it the way he's vocalizing.

Corgi deep corgi wide

The snow isn't quite corgi deep this morning.

But it certainly was coming down last night as you can see by the "new look" Jinks is sporting after his late night potty break outside.

I think it may be time to cut down on the treats a little. When he got home from the ICU he was 24 pounds now he's up to 30 pounds.

Good Morning Sopris

This is Mount Sopris above Carbondale. Named for "General" Sopris who "discovered" the hot springs in Glenwood.

It has a "rock glacier" and misses being a "Thirteener" by 47 feet at 12,953 feet altitude. It's one end of the Elk Mountain range- Mnt Elbert the highest mountain in Colorado is at the other end of the Elk Mountains. We're at around 7000 feet at the ranch. Although I've climbed around the Elk Mountains a bit I've never made the hike. I did "ski" up Elbert many years ago but that's another story.

It's warmer this morning (out of the minus' column)

Jinks is looking perky and Ginny is following him more and more instead of the other way 'round.

I've heard the "eep eep eep" of elk the past two nights. They normally come back through here for Christmas and New Years.

The corgi in the driveway

So it's a little alarming the first time you see Ginny in the middle of the drive like this and absolutely stone still.

She loves to roll and she loves just to lay on her back.

Jinks still has some congestion but he's looking better and getting fatter.

Special Green Kicker

It's a special green day -8F but I'm sure the snow is colder. You can tell because the snow gets squeaky. This did not deter the troops however.

Barking pneumonia

Jinks has a congested left lung. He's on a whole mess of antibiotics

But this morning he was looking pretty spry. His coughing was a lot less didn't sound as bad as it did yesterday.

He's decided he hates the little snow coat.

Mostly because it restricts his movement when he's being a PITB to BB. So, I guess he's feeling better, and being a stubborn short barking snippy butthead.

That's our boy.

snow and sun

The day started out cold and snowy. Here Jinks and Ginny look like they're in a scene from Dr. Zhivago. You will notice Jinks has a snow nose- he's just been playing snowplow.

Things livened up a bit when there was something to bark at.

What else? Bark at the Puli with the Santa Teddy bear toy. BB's put the burners on....

Because look what's after him...

Then the sun came out and everybody had fun. I really need to get these guys some snow suits...they will turn into running snowballs pretty soon.

Sun and about 3 new inches of snow. Fun for the kids- more plowing for me.

Ginny just loves to roll in the snow- and as you can see she thinks it tastes good too. Maybe all those years in the truck cage she never got to taste snow. We're making up for that now.

puffy lips

This is Jinks' look when I say "Wanna go outside?" It hasn't changed much. His vision isn't too good, he's moving slower, his breathing is labored at night- but say "Wanna go outside?" and this is what I get- ears up- bright eyes.

Outside today means whiteout. Did I mention it's cold- very cold?

You can see him getting just a little "puffy lipped" here- he does that when he's feeling especially fierce. I've seen him charge a backhoe with puffy lips and raised hackles barking up a storm. He also tried to challenge a young buck once (4 point). The deer tend to laugh at him but they eventually trot off which reinforces the image of the stalwart Corgi line of defense.

A cough developed yesterday, which is not a good sign. It's not too bad yet. He's obviously enjoying the daily walks and the extra rations. He's a stubborn little corgi.

Quality of Life

Sunday was an especially beautiful day

Jinks was feeling alert-

I imagine there is very little which is better than a sunny day on the deck with a fresh marrow bone.

At least that seemed to be the consensus. Lunch was very quiet except for the scraping of tooth to bone and the occassional "Get outta my space".

And the after lunch walk - well I think that's approval from all the family.
